Breeder/Sellers Beware

Our experience with a mix breed dog breeder

For those of you that do not want your puppy/dog going to someone that breeds mutts, we would like to warn you about this person that lied to get one of our Miniature Poodles. We had a phone inquiry from a woman wanting a pet saying they were empty nesters, kids had gone to college, etc. Puppy was sold to this woman on a pet contract stating the dog was to be neutered and not to be bred before being neutered. January of this year, we discovered this woman was not who she represented herself as and in fact was a breeder of mix breed dogs and had been breeding this dog. We knew it was her from her phone number on the bill of sale as she used a fake name and address to buy this puppy. After confronting her , she admitted that he was bought on a neuter/pet contract and offered to bring him back to us after she had him neutered. A time and place was decided upon to meet, then she changed the agreement that had been made saying she found him a pet home, he would be neutered, we just had to trust her. At that time she was told  we would need to have a letter from the vet that the dog had been neutered. She was given one month to have this dog neutered. We have not received confirmation from a vet that this dog has been neutered as of Feb. 10, 2010.

Below is the last e-mail we received from this woman and our answer to it (in blue letters). All correspondence we have had with this woman is available to view including the original contract on dog.

Subject: Return of Simon

Barb,

Thinking it over and really getting down to the root of all of this I have truly talked this over with several friends and in talking with them, I have found a PET home for Simon where he will be neutered  and live indoors and be a house fluffy. This is what you have wanted all along.  So, that said, you did indeed sell the dog on a neuter agreement and that agreement is now being fulfilled.  There is no reason to return him to you wasting your time and mine.  No need for me to hire someone to deliver him back to you and for you to put out the expense to neuter him and find him an appropriate home. He has been removed from my website and no other mention of your name or his will be on the site to associate my kennel w/yours as you have requested in a recent email.

We expect confirmation by Feb. 5, 2010 from the vet that he is neutered. Never a waste of time when it comes to making sure sure our dogs are in the right home.

I have to honestly say, when I find a home for a dog I don't want bred, I do not supply any registration papers and they are spayed/neutered before leaving here to insure the intentions of the new owners are the same as mine.

If you truly had a gut feeling about the transaction, you could have and should have canceled the deal at that time.  At the time, the money for the dog was more important than your gut feeling.

There was no proof at the time that the person buying this dog was being deceitful. Some people simply come off the wrong way and end up good pet owners that keep in contact for years.

All along you had my phone number and  you could have called and asked but you didn't so I don't feel you truly, really cared or you would have inquired sooner.

There was no reason for us to check, dog was sold as a pet and purchaser agreed to it by signing the bill of sale.

I am sorry this has all turned out this way and the best thing for me was to admit what I did however you sold him and relinquished your rights when you let him go.  So, Simon is not coming back to you. He is being placed in a pet home on a neuter agreement.

No one has the right to breed him in the first place. Contract was signed on this dog.

I know you don't want to trust me on this, but you will have to.

Barbara

Have a safe, blessed and healthy New Year.
